Do I need permission to reroof in a Sale conservation area?

Reroofing like for like normally counts as repair and needs no permission. Changing the material, the colour or the profile is where you run into trouble, and the council takes the Church Lane and Brogden Grove boundaries seriously.

Can I reuse my existing tiles?

Often yes. On a 1930s semi we usually get seventy to eighty five per cent of the tiles back on, topping up with matched reclaimed stock. If they snap when handled we will say so rather than relay a doomed covering.

How long is the scaffolding up for?

The bulk of M33 is 1920s and 1930s semi detached housing, with pre war council stock and estates added in the 1970s in Ashton upon Mersey and eastern Sale. On the inter war houses the tiles are often still sound and it is the mortar, the nails and the underfelt that have gone, so a strip and recover reusing your own tile costs less than a full new covering. On the 1970s interlocking tile the trouble is usually flashings, verges and porch roofs.
