Many M16 terraces have a parapet running above the roof line with the gutter set behind it rather than hung off a fascia. Those hidden box gutters are where the serious water damage starts, because when the lead splits or the outlet blocks the water goes into the wall head and down inside the house. We open them up, renew the lead in properly lapped sections with expansion joints, replace the timber sole and clear the outlets. Where the run carries on into next door we say so plainly.

Stacks near Northumberland Road and the later Firswood stock
The stacks on these houses are big, often serving four flues or more. Around Northumberland Road, Hullard Park and towards Brooks Bar we find the same faults again and again: flaunching cracked so the pots move, joints eroded back to bare brick, and lead replaced with a cement fillet that has parted from the brickwork.
